It was a cold winter morning when we set out in the Paugussett State Forest to find their Seedling Letterbox #25. We weren't able to find it given the frozen snow cover but, despite the cold, it was a pretty day. So we decided to plant an easy box that reminded us of the spring to come.
Directions to parking area:
In Newtown, go to the end of Echo Valley Road. (We got a little lost so having a map helped.) As you get to the end of the road it turns to dirt and passes one last house--the occupants apparently really like their privacy--and ends in the DEP parking area.
After finding the DEP box go back to the parking area. Look up at the stone wall above the back of the parking lot. You should also see a big tree trunk on the ground (a red birch??) and a little sapling between the tree and the wall. The box is behind and under the tree hidden by a couple of rocks.
