This was originally planted by a 9 1/2 year old in 2007. It got finds for 7 years, then nothing for 7 more. When I found it in 2021, it was completely smashed and filled with dirt. But rather than throw it away, I gave it a new container, moved it and adopted the listing. Now, rather than pay the $29.95 entrance fee I paid, you can find this cracked and worn store-bought stamp with ruined logbook outside the front gate. It may not last, but maybe one more person will find it. And you can always pay the entrance fee and check out the zoo if you wish, it's pretty cool with American, African and Australian sections, hiking trails, and a huge model train exhibit.

Walk north on the sidewalk from the entrance gate past boulders and cacti to the first tree on the right next to the fence. The letterbox is buried under the black rock.

Here's the original clue for posterity:

Go to the Living Desert Zoo in Palm Desert, California. Their address is 47-900 Portola Avenue, Palm Desert, California. You may call the Living Desert at 346-5694 for directions, or visit their website at www.LivingDesert.org. There is a entrance fee, but it is worth it. I do not recommend visiting here during the extremely hot summer months. It can get up to 120 degrees during the summer.

Once inside the Living Desert entrance, get yourself a map and walk towards the Bighorn Sheep Hill. To the left of this hill is a trailhead. Walk on this dirt trail. When you get to a fork in the road, take the right hand trail which leads you towards the San Andreas Fault Exhibit. Stop when you get to a large sign that is titled "Our Ever Changing Earth." Walk on the small dirt path on the right hand side of this sign towards the rock mountains. You will take 20 "9 1/2 year old" steps forward. Then turn left and then take 6 "9 1/2 year old" steps. There will be an opening between 2 large rocks. There will be a big rock in the center of these other 2 large rocks. The letter box is hidden near the right tip of the center rock (about 2 1/2 feet up this center rock). It is in a crevice and is covered with other small rocks. There is a stick poking out of this crevice as well. Please watch out for snakes, scorpions, spiders and other desert creatures.
