In Pott Co. KS, stood a magnificent tree
A record holder, in 1988, for all to see
This elm witnessed much of history,
It's stature made it a sight to see
It was damaged by lightning, that wasn 't all
It was blown apart by a pipe bomb in 1998
By a vandal whose brain was too small
The trunk is still there, diameter 10 to 12 feet
Louis Vieux Elm, if you've seen it, do a repeat
Then go on east to the Louis Vieux cemetery
Where gravestones a tragic story carry
Cholera caused these settlers fate
Be respectful, quiet and close the gate
Now read the clues below
They'll take you where you want to go.

To get to the Elm, take Highway 24 east in Wamego to Walsh Rd. The New Holland Impl. Co. is at this corner. Go 4/l0th of a mile north on Walsh Rd. to Old Post Road. Go east 1 mile on Old Post Road to Louis Vieux Rd. Go north on it 2 & 1/2 miles to the Oregon Trail Rd. Go east on Oregon Trail Rd 1& 7/l0th miles to the Louis Vieux Elm monument. After viewing it proceed on east to the cemetery. At the cemetery take the path to the top of the hill, outside the cemetery gate, turn to the right and walk along the fence to a point between the 3rd and 4th cemetery fence posts, you'll be in among cedar limbs where you'll find what you seek.
