Self portraits have been used by artists for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. They are used as a means of artistic expression, insight into who the artist is and who they imagine themselves to be. Wikipedia has an interesting page on self portraits and their history at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-portrait

The Self Portrait letterbox extends to you the opportunity to use this form of artistic expression to gain insight into yourself and expose something of your self to other finders of this box. I am requesting that all finders of this letterbox include a self portrait of themselves in the log book in the box. Artistic talent is not imperative. What is important is that you make the effort.

The pages in the log book for this box are something like 3 inches by 4 inches. If you plan to draw your self portrait about 2 inches square, there should be room for both your portrait and the usual stamping in and comments.

Feel free to draw your portrait when you log into the box, or to prepare something ahead of time that you bring with you. If you bring your self portrait with you I do request that you also bring tape so that you can securely attach your portrait to the page in the log book.

The stamp for this box is (what else?) a self portrait of me - Numberboxer. How much it actually looks like me is open for debate, but I do believe it captures a bit of my essence. Hope you enjoy it.

Now on to the clues...

Find your way to trail marker #26 at the Peters Reservation in Dover, MA. From that spot head due north up a trail 50 or so paces. On your right about 15 paces off the trail is a lone boulder, perhaps three feet tall. The Self Portrait letterbox is hidden behind and under this boulder, covered with some branches. Please rehide as well or better than you found it.

Note that if you make your way to trail marker #29 and follow the trail to the west from there, you will find a sunny spot on the banks of the Charles River to draw your self portrait. You might even gaze down into the water in the river to gain some inspiration by viewing your reflection. However, I suspect that this would only be practical if the weather is good as this area looked to me like it would be infested with mosquitoes in the warmer months.
