The original Leaning Tower was my first find and on a recent visit I was disappointed to find it missing. Elmer (the original planter) graciously gave me permission to plant a replacement and Gizz graciously carved a reasonable copy of the original stamp. I've listed this find in Berlin because that's where you park...originally it was listed in Southington. The clues are almost the same as in the original except for the final resting place.

Directions: Follow West Lane west off Route 71-A (Chamberlain Highway) in Berlin for 6/10 of a mile to roadside parking at the entrance to Ragged Mountain Preserve.

Find and follow the trail markers that are blue with red dots. Stay to the
left all the way up. You will quickly gain elevation and be rewarded with
some of the best views seldom seen anywhere else. This hike can take either 1
1/2 to 2 hrs (out and back) depending on your time spent enjoying the awesome
view, or if you choose you can take a 6 mile long loop that will take 3 1/2
hrs or more.

Approximately 45 minutes into the hike you will come upon a large tower of
rock that has peeled itself away from the main cliff. It seems to defy
gravity and appears to be held in place by a large rectangular boulder wedged
between the tower and the cliff. To get the best view of this you should find
a "seat" in the rocks on a flat ledge that faces the tower in front and
slightly to the left of you.

After enjoying the rock formation, stand at the split of the rocks (to your left when sitting) take a reading of 260 degrees (this will be your direction of travel) but continue on the blue blazed trail, turning right at the double blaze, passing a large free standing boulder on the left. At the next (single) blazed tree, turn left off trail, passing another free standing boulder on the left. At the two sister tree, sit on her slanted rock side kick and reach under the west side. Actually take a stick and poke the box out...please.
Be careful not to be seen as you'll be visible from both sides of the trail.

Thanks for the visit and to those who made it possible.
