Few know the sad truth of war better than the folks who have lived -- and died -- on Silvis' 2nd Street.
By now, most everybody around here knows the story of this tiny street which sent an incredible number of its sons to fight, and to die, for their country. If you do not, please visit their web site http://www.herostreetusa.org/ and then the actual site.
Hero street is located in the small town of Silvis Illinois, East of East Moline and Moline in the Quad Cities.
From Interstate 74, take Route 92 East. One block AFTER Route 84 crosses Route 92, Turn RIGHT (Or south) onto 2nd street and park anywhere.
Here are your clues:
Topped by an eagle, nine serpents encircle
A flag, a rifle, a helmet of gold.
8 Arboreaviteas stand in silent salute
to Sandoval, Munos, and others so bold.
A warning to youth, “There is a time and a place….”
Chides them from playing in this “sacred place”
William Carter was honored and you will be too,
find your remembrance amid the evergreen hue.
This is a LARGE stamp 4” X 4”.
As always, please be discreet and careful when stamping in and re-hiding this box.
I intend this box to honor our veteran’s. This is, truly, a sacred place.
