Difficulty: Easy (but longer hike than normal)
Distance to Minibox: 1 1/2 mile one way
Status of Minibox: Alive and Well on 4/14/2009
"The Raven #2" Minibox is a re-placement box for an early placement I had near the Sam Houston statue, and a second one in this park. Sam Houston's nickname was "The Raven", thus the stamp named to honor the ultimate Texan. It is located in a large park near town, which also has Lake Raven!
Directions:
Once you get to the park, pay fee at entry. Take 1st right turn and drive past all the camping until you finally reach the parking lot on the right at the very end loop (with the trail sign and a few picnic tables). Be sure to pre-print a trail map, or get one when you enter.
To the Minibox:
We did this on bikes, but you can walk it also. Great trails! Starting at the sign, take the trail heading uphill. At first juction, keep going straight. After this juction, go .27 miles to next juction, and go right. After .09 miles go right again at the next juction. After going a ways on this trail you will come to another juction (the path straight was blocked (CLOSED TRAIL), go right. Soon you will come out on a road bed and will go right. On the left you will reach a wooden platform, numbered #19. From this platform, go 38 steps at 200 degrees to the back of a large pine tree. Box is at base, covered with sticks. I hope it does not get burned up, as they are burning a lot of the underbrush in the park.
