|Placed Date||Mar 24 2007|
|Location||Colorado Springs, CO|
This box was moved from the Garden of the Gods.
From Highway 24 take 21st Street South, turn right on
Lower Gold Camp Road. At the four way stop go straight
onto Gold Camp Road. Park at the Section 16 trail head.
The walk: (approximately 3/4 mile to box)
Follow the main trail. The trail zig zags along the
foot hills through Ponderosa Pine and Scrub Oak.
Pasque flowers can be found in the spring and other
wild flowers through the summer. Notice the nice
views of the city below.
About 1/2 mile down the trail you will see a wood marker,
at a V in the trail, stay to the left (the more traveled
trail). Notice the ridge of red rock on your left.
Where the red rock crosses the trail take a little
side trip, scramble up the rocks to your right for
a nice view. RETURN TO THE MAIN TRAIL.
After a short distance you will see another wood marker
continue on the main trail do not turn. Notice the
view of the Garden of the Gods on your right.
Ahead is another ridge of red rock, I wonder if
a mouse lives on the far side? Continue along the trail
at one point the trail turns to solid rock. At the
top of the rock there is a small trail to your right.
Go right scramble along the base of the rock approximately
126 paces. At about 88 paces you will have to bush wack
a bit around a Mountain Mahogany. Hugging the red rock is
a pine. At the base of the pine you will find MOUSE FEET.
This is a great trail system if you continue on you
can follow Intemann trail along the foot hills or
go up to the top of a marvelous ridge with spectacular
views. The trail continues in a loop back to High Drive
then along the road to where you parked. This is a
fairly long hike so bring snacks and water.
Also if you have children with you don't forget to stop at
the Bear Creek Visitor's Center on Bear Creek Road just
below you. Have fun.
