This box is located at the Painted Hills unit of the John Day Fossil Beds.
Hike: Easy. Stay on the trail, except for two steps off at the end. Watch out for desert critters, especially when reaching for the box!
Clues: Easy. Compass headings are magnetic. At no time should you veer from any trail. Please be discreet, this can be a busy area.
Go to the Cove. Walk the plank until you reach the sinkhole. Leave the plank in favor of the path less traveled at 130 degrees for ~120 steps. There is a small, squarish boulder just two steps off the trail at 320 degrees. A rock cairn at the base covers the box.
