Sanibel Island, Florida, was once known for its immense mosquito population. Spraying and drainage programs have improved the situation.
The Mosquito Queen escaped poisoning by hiding in a box. The directions that follow will bring you to where she hides today. Some say if she is let out, she will quickly repopulate Sanibel with a new mosquito problem. So, if you find her, PLEASE put her back in the dark box where you found her and lock her up tight again.
If you are new to Sanibel, you might want to pull in here, park, get a drink, and go potty. If you have something you need to mail, there are 3 mailboxes nearby and a UPS drop-box. See 'em? OK. I think you have the right place. Before you go, you might want to take a little hike and stretch your legs. Look for a gate that will allow you and your bike to pass. Behind three reflectors in a row is a tree with many legs. Near its toes is The Mosquito Queen. She is hard to see, and be careful when you retrieve her as she has many insect friends!
This is an orphan box. If someone would like to adopt it, please contact me. Thank you.
