I loved this book by P.D. Eastman as a child, and I enjoyed reading it to my children as an adult. It was written in 1961 but its colorful illustrations and fun vocabulary continues to entertain most children today. It is also a great "first reader" as the words are common and the pictures are very descriptive. If nothing else, the reader will love all the dogs. And speaking of dogs, this letterbox can be found in Davey Dogwood Park, which is featured during the annual Texas Dogwood Trails Festival from late March to early April. So read the book, then go dog go for this box.
Directions:
Take Loop 256 around Palestine until you get to Link Street, which is also 3309. Turn north and continue until you see signs pointing left for Davey Dogwood Park. Turn left into the park and at first jct bear right on one-way road with sign for Trail. At next jct stay right and go by open field on left. At next jct bear right on one-way road #2 and go past picnic pavilion on the left. Continue looping around until you go past the stone monument on your left and the road dead-ends in a circle where you can park by the Nature Trailhead.
Clues:
Walk uphill on the Nature Trail for 65 steps, staying left at the first jct. You will see a sign on the left describing Mexican Plum and a tree laying across the trail. Step over the tree and continue 20 steps. Turn left and walk off trail uphill for 10 steps to a dead tree on the ground. Go to the Y fork in the tree a little to the right. The camo letterbox is in a hollow under sticks and leaves. Please rehide well.
