I CHECKED THIS BOX LOCATION ON MAY 11, 2009 AND SOMEONE HAS TAKEN THE BOX! AGAIN! SORRY FOR ANY FRUITLESS TRIPS. HOPEFULLY WE WILL REPLACE THIS BOX SOMETIME MID-SUMMER 2009.

THIS BOX HAD BEEN REACTIVATED APPROX> 11-2-2007.

If it is Winter in Southern California (generally November 1 to March 15) you may need winter gear & clothing to find this LetterBox, including vehicles with chains or 4 wheel-drive.

1. You will be in the USGS San Jacinto Peak Quadrangle
2. There are many California State Highways. Start on the only one that passes through Idyllwild, CA.
3. Stop near the center of town. About one mile high.
4. Find the nearest gnome or eagle. Then go to ATM.
This is GO. Do not collect $200!!
5. Check your GPS. Try N33 deg 44' 41.9" x W116 deg 42' 48.3"
6. Go right or left. A Town map may help.
7. You will circle North or circle South.
8. It is a long steep walk. A vehicle will help.
9. Head toward one of our National Forest Parks.
10. Do not wander off the road. It is up-up-up.
11. Find a street that has the same name as one of our Southern California cities.
12. Pass that street by.
13. Continue on and look for the large green drums.
14. Use your Adventure Forest Pass.
15. See if you can see the head of Ernie.
16. Watch your step. If the ground is white…it is slippery.
17. Check your GPS. Try N33 deg 45' 53.3" x W116 deg 41' 13.8" El. 6412 ft.
18. Go West young person! Serpentine like….
19. Keep your feet dry on the rocks.
20. Stay to the left after that. Don't look down.
21. Find the box at N33 deg 45' 37.5"" x W116 deg 41' 27.8".
(if you don't have GPS, constantly look to the left as you walk-about 5-10 minutes). You need not leave the trail. Look for 4 forest features surrounding the box like a family of 4. Papa, Mama, junior and baby very close to the trail.
21. I'm hiding under some rocks.
22. My record book is green. Leave your mark.
23. Close me tight and cover me with my rocks.
