I love butterflies and so, when I found this old quilt block design, I fell in love with it, too, and made a quilt using the design. I had to place the block in an area with a lot of flowers, so what better place than the Texas Hill Country? And what better place in the Hill Country than Austin? And what better place in Austin than near the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center? Plenty of flowers for the butterfly.
Directions:
From Austin, take Mopac south to La Crosse Ave. Turn left and go .3 miles to a parking lot on the left. This is the parking lot for the Veloway, a trail designed exclusively for bicycles and rollerblading located on more than 100 acres in the Slaughter Creek Metropolitan Park. Park here for the box. If you continue on down La Crosse Ave. a short distance, on the right you will see the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. This is another great place to visit while in Austin, so include it in your itinerary if you can.
Clues:
Walk across the street to the “Wildflower Center” sign. Behind it you will find a large boulder (really a large concrete block) with a cedar post embedded in it. Behind this rock you will find the Butterfly covered with smaller rocks. Be sure to look for Silver Eagle’s box “Mello Velo” while you’re here.
