**I have had a report that the logbooks in the first 2 boxes are wet, but the third is dry and fine. I will try and get out this week (8/11/08) to replace the first 2 books, but feel free to hunt these, just log in the last book for now!**

My son Tai, who loves Letterboxing, wanted to do a letterboxing party for his 5th birthday. I hid 3 letterboxes in our favorite park and we introduced his friends to letterboxing. They all got their own stamp and logbook and we used these clues to find these letterboxes. I hope you have as much fun as we did! These are the first boxes we’ve hidden, but we’ve found many!

Red Wing Park is located at 1398 General Booth Blvd in Virginia Beach. Enter the park and drive all the way back to the large playground. Park near Shelter #1. This is a great park full of a lot of things to do. There are 2 playgrounds, a big field to fly kites in, a sand volleyball court where my kids play with their sand toys, horseshoe pits, tennis and handball courts, baseball diamonds, a dog park, and gardens at the front on the park. Plan on staying for a while and exploring!

**Congrats to QOCMike, first finder!**

“Nothing like the Present”

From the Southeast corner of Picnic Shelter #1, head off into the woods towards the Nature Trail. (there is a rough trail, then you come to the Nature Trail sign, where the new trail begins). On the left, you will come to a red bench and trashcan. Keep walking on the trail until you see a jagged stump to the left of the trail. **I've had a report that this stump has been cut. I will go and check this week*** To the right of that stump, you will see a cut stump. From the cut stump, walk towards the gray house in the distance until you come to another jagged stump. Be careful of brambles! Walk about 22 paces towards the gray house until you get to another jagged stump. Look under some sticks to find the first letterbox in this series. Please re-hide carefully and be careful of Muggles!

“The Big 5”

Go back to the trail and continue the way you were heading. At the 3 way fork in the trail, take the trail all the way to the right. Once you are past a bench, count the white painted trees on the left. At the 4th white painted tree, stop and put your back against that tree facing the trail. Look across the trail. Do you see a big pine tree? Walk to the pine tree, then take 7-8 steps towards a tree leaning to the right. Under the roots of that tree, on the left, is the second letterbox. It is not far from the trail, so log in carefully!

“Let them eat Cake”

Back on the trail, keep going until you get to another fork in the trail. Take the right hand fork. Continue until you get to a huge fallen stump with huge exposed roots. Face the trail and walk into the woods on the left side of trail. Follow the rough trail towards a large pine tree. Go around the pine tree on the left and step over some fallen branches. Look under two trees on the right to find the letterbox. Watch out for brambles! Please re-hide letterbox carefully! Go back to the trail and continue on. It will soon bring you back to the picnic shelter!

***NOTE*** There are TONS of biting insects in this part of the park. Please bring lots of bug spray!
