The Coulee Corridor winds through some of Eastern Washington more unique landscape. During the last Ice Age, gigantic floods repeatedly ripped through the Columbia Basin. The result is huge dry canyons of basalt intersperced with fields of boulders. Nowadays, many of these coulees have been turned into resevoirs to irrigate the Columbia Basin. The scenic byway runs 150 miles from Othello to Omak. In between you can visit th Potholes Resevoir, the Sun Lakes, Dry Falls, Steamboat Rock, Grand Coulee Dam, and the Colville Indian Reservation.
Author's Note: This box is right along the highway in a gravel pull-off. There is plenty of room, but cars tend to come zooming down the highway. That' why I didn't list the box as kid or pet friendly, as they have a tendancy to run all over. Also this box is near a swimming hole popular among area teens. There may be quite a few cars parked in this pull-off. However, you can't see the hiding spot from the swimming hole. However, the box is my favorite of the whole series I have planted/am carving so go get it!
Clues:
Head south on Highway 155. Not far after Jones Bay, there is a pull-off on the right side of the road prior to a sign with the wording "Northrup Pt 1 mile." Park on the gravel shoulder. Align yourself with the Driving Prohibited sign in the rocks and sagebrush to the right of the highway. Take 39 paces south. In the curl of the guardrail, you'll find a letterbox stuck deep inside.
