Spree For All –Spring Hiking Event
Everett Road Covered Bridge
May 1 – June 30, 2007
Complete this award-winning hiking series by searching for letterboxes from Travel’n Turtle and Wee Walkers. Complete at least five hikes – on five different trails, the same trail or any combination of trails – to receive hiking rewards. Hikes must be completed May 1 through June 30. Hiking forms available at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm (Cherry Lane box), the park district’s administrative offices (975 Treaty Line Road, Akron), all Acme Fresh Market locations and by calling 1-800-23-SUMMA, or download one at: http://summitmetroparks.org/programs/spree.shtml
Access the bridge from the parking lot located off Everett Road and Riverside. You can cross over the bridge and walk a few small trails leading down to the river. Listen for the passing train and the frogs croaking.
When leaving the bridge be sure to visit the "history" display set up along the rock wall. "Birth of the Park" is an interesting read. In fact you may want to rest on the fifth rock to the left and take a minute to ponder its content. If you reach behind the wall to stretch don't knock the fungus from between the rocks.
