Easy 15 minute walk. One street crossing at a crosswalk.
Begin your search at the western corner of the drive entrance to the Orleans Town Hall. Take as many steps easterly as there are letters in "Orleans Town Hall". Continue this direction past the first 5 fence posts. Turning north you must cross the street and start up the 'stairs', counting as you go. From the top of the 'stairs' head to the 'ships wheel' display to the NNE. With your back to the wheel, take as many steps forward as there are spokes on the wheel. Turn 1/4 turn to the east and take as many steps forward towards the cemetery as there were 'stairs' from the street. Continue clockwise around the building until you are standing between the twin doors and the great pirate's pine tree. With your back to the carved 'birds' search beneath the date '1883' for the box.
Krakatoa is an island volcano along the Indonesian arc, between the much larger islands of Sumatra and Java. It erupted in 1883, in one of the largest eruptions in recent time. A local girl, aged 16 years old, navigated their family's merchant sailboat away from the devastation as her father and brothers manned the sails.
