From Missoula Montana over the top of Lolo pass. A couple miles down the Idaho side of the pass you will find two sign in a big turnout. One is about Lewis and Clark and what a time they had getting over these mountians, the other is about the checkerboard land ownership of the forests. After you read the signs go up the road from the checkerboard sign about 12 paces to the larch grove. Look behind the second tree and under the rocks.
