11/25/2007 we received the following note updating the clues with the help from Lori.

"The Dam Raccoon is back under his rock. The picnic bench is no longer after the horse trough.
There is a picnic table and benches before the trough which you will see as you come down the stairs to the trail.

Before planting, I talked to the ranger in the nature center. He copied the clues and kept the note giving me permission to do the planting." Lori

In the city of Oroville, follow Oroville Dam Blvd to top of the hill to the Visitor's Center. Be sure and climb to the top of the tower for a great view. The Visitor's Center has maps or use the posted map in the patio to locate the Chapparal Trail. Take the first left turn on the trail and go past the horse trough. Take the next left turn at the picnic bench. Pass by a silver pipe gate and propane tanks in the distance on your left. When you come to a multiuse yellow trail marker take the right fork for 160 steps west and down the trail. At 160 steps you will be near several burnt orange colored boulders on your right next to the trail. One of the boulders is orange with a grey side on the northwest end. The letterbox is under the grey side under movable rocks. The box is resting on a flat rock to keep it elevated off the ground. Be sure that when you rehide the box it is on the rock again.

Note: On 8/12/2008 we received this info from another letterboxer and this additional info may be a help.

"... use the posted map in the patio to locate the trailheads.
From the lower patio edge, take the left, or Dan Beebee Trail down the wooden steps, through the equestrian rest stop where you may see a horse trough and picnic table. Where this trail comes to a T with a sign, turn left towards Oroville Dam.
When you come to a triangle of ______with a pipe gate in the distance, go to the right toward the yellow multi-use trail sign that is not facing you.
At the fork just ahead, go right 160 steps down the Bidwell Canyon trail.
You will see several burnt orange colored boulders...."

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.

Please contact placer directly or through the LBNA chat list regarding status rather than unofficial data bases.
