Bedford Reservation is part of the Cleveland Metroparks system. It has hiking and bridle trails. This section is not very well known, it is located on the road that I grew up on and has a baseball field. Hutchinson Field is a baseball field were I spent a lot of time as a child. In recent years they have also added a few soccer fields. Down the trail there used to be an old Girl Scout cabin which has been recently torn down and there are no longer any clues that it ever existed except for the fire pit which is still there.

Equipment Needed: ink pad, bug spray, pen
Difficulty: Moderate (some hills)
Time 30 minutes

Driving Directions:

From I-480 , take the Broadway exit in Garfield Hts area and head South-East towards Bedford. Turn right (west) on West Grace St. Travel over the railroad tracks and then down the hill and back up the other side. Just at the top of the hill, West Grace Street makes a left turn (sign says West Grace Street / Button Rd), make the left. (If you miss the turn and continue on, you will now be on Turney Rd, yes it's strange:).
As soon as you make the turn you will see the soccer fields on the left, go past the first lot and turn in the second drive (west). A sign reads "Bedford O.E. Hutchinson Field". Park here and you will see that the drive ends by the baseball field and you must walk from there.

Clues:

Begin your hike at the chained off road and travel down the path to the end where you will see an opening. This is where the Girl Scout cabin used to be. Take the trail straight back on the right side and pass the fire pit and head down the hill. You will see a trail that comes in from the left, but stay on the main trail and continue down the hill. At the bottom of the hill is a small creek. This is where my sister and I used to get clay from when we were kids and mold thing with it. (We could not resist and took a big lump home today.) Head up the other side and you will pass "1985 Jimmy Jeff" on the left. Continue on past the big rock on the right and the trail will level out up on top. (If you listen closely you will hear the sound of Tinker's Creek below you). Look on the left for a tree with "PAT N.B. 9-27-80" with "1981" under it, in a nice big frame. STOP!! Turn around and head back the way you came from 25 single steps and stop at the large tree next to the trail on your left. This tree has a smaller tree growing right out of it. The backdoor of this tree contains the "bugs".
