Enfield Common Grounds

DIRECTIONS:

I-91 to Exit 48. Follow Elm Street (Rt. 220) East towards Somers. At your 6th (7th if you came from I-91S) take a right to stay on Elm Street. At your first light take a right to stay on Elm Street. The Common Grounds are located on your left behind the Senior Center.

The Enfield Common Grounds Garden was established in 2006 by the Enfield Rotary Club. Its purpose is to provide fresh produce to the local food shelter and soup kitchen. Last year, more than two tons of fruit, vegetables, and herbs were delivered. Local nurseries donate all of the supplies, and all of the labor is volunteer-based. There is also a children’s garden club (Sunny Patch Kids) which runs during the summer. Anyone wishing to help may contact Amalita Grimes at tigrlili29@aol.com or Henry Dutcher at hdutcher@enfield.org.

CLUES:

Park at the back of the parking lot. You will see the Common Grounds Community Garden to your left in back of the Senior Center. Follow the path to the center of the garden.

Common Grounds Garden:
Walk counter-clockwise near the center of the garden. At your second path go left towards the Sunny Patch Kids Garden. Walk towards the building on your left. On the left of the building, sit on the bench. Look to your left. At the back bottom corner of the shed you will see a rock out of place. Look behind the rock to see what has “sprouted.”

Enfield Pine Grove:
From the center of the garden, you will see a small stand of trees. The stand of trees is located at 180 degrees from the garden center. You will enter the woods along a sandy path near the small stand of trees. Walk along the path until you come to a marsh in front of you. Follow the path for about 100 feet and bear left on the path. Keep watching the left side of the path until you see a small wooden bridge leading into the woods. Cross over this bridge. Follow the path until you see a line of pine trees. Stop at the 16th pine tree. To your left, down the small hill, you will see a tree that has 8 trunks. Look at the base of this tree for your evergreen prize.
