This box was planted for thesecond annual International Plant a Letterbox Day
May 24th 2007

Delta Ponds (as you know from one of our other letterboxes) is a GREAT place to learn about nature and see beautiful sites. We saw ducks, butterflies, lots of different birds, a GIANT blue heron, turtles and a beaver.

To Get There: Goodpasture Island Road. If you are traveling on Goodpasture going north pass all the dealerships, but don't go too far. You will see on the right side of the road a little turnout/driveway with a green gate and signs for Delta Ponds.

To The Box: Walk down the trail and stop to have a look from the viewing platform. Notice all the wildlife and listen to the birds. (When we planted this there were tons of ducklings out)
Continue on the trail. You will notice that there have been lots of things planted by the city lately. When you get to the "T" go right along the waters edge. You will see lots of fallen trees with big teeth marks in them. Make your way along the trail till you are stopped by a large fallen tree. Sit on the log with your back to the freeway. Once you have enjoyed the sites that surround you stand up and take 9 steps back down the trail. Look left and you will see a VERY large tree with a 2 foot stump on it's west side. Inspect the stump for a prize.

This image came from a book I read awhile back. I have always been intrigued by it. I recently was going throught some boxes of old books and found it again. It screamed to be carved. I am quite proud of how it turned out. Enjoy!

Happy Trails!
