PenGwen asked me to adopt all of her LA and OC boxes.
Alive and well as of 6/24/11
I looked for it on 4/23/15 and couldn't find it. I'm fairly certain it's gone, but with shifting rocks and over a decade of plant growth I can't be 100% positive. If you're looking for a find, skip this one, but if you're looking for a great view and a slim chance at long-forgotten glory, go for it.

Try for this box on a clear day and you are sure to see Catalina Island and perhaps migrating gray whales (Dec-March).

From Palos Verdes Drive head north 1/2 mile up Hawthorne Blvd. Turn into Point Vicente Park and Civic Center. Park in the Visitor's parking area. Locate the, tall metal antenna. With your back against the antenna locate the wooden pole at 250 degrees, then find the path that takes you there. You may walk past the locations of old gun emplacements. On the path at 20 paces past the last pole find the L.A. County Survey Control System marker, San Pedro Hills 1936, RE 2177. From this marker walk down hill 22 paces at 340 degrees, then 8 paces at 60 degrees. The box is tucked under the left side of an ochre, lichen covered small boulder and covered with some movable rocks. The box can also be reached by taking 17 paces through the ice plant at 310 degrees from the pole. Enjoy the view, then head for Ports of Call.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.
