ROMANS ROAD LETTERBOX
***ALL 5 BOXES HAVE BEEN PULLED PERMANENTLY FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: *WATER DAMAGE * MOST PEOPLE DON'T REPLACE BOXES BACK PROPERLY*** I have kept the bonus boards in place if you wish to search for these alone.
Allow 1 and 1/2 hours to find all 5 boxes.
This letterbox adventure explains the Christians belief in God’s salvation according to the Bible. In addition to the letterboxes you can also find B.B.s (a.k.a. “Bonus boards”) which are small 1 inch x 3 inch pine boards with Christian symbols &/or Bible verses wood burned on them that are hidden on trees (either evergreens or holly trees). When you find B.B.s you may want to have a paper & pencil to jot the verses down & look up later in a Bible! There are 11 in all!

Start down dirt path, keeping track of the pairs of high tension wire poles you pass.(*B.B. clue #1-Just before you get to the 2nd pair of high tension poles, you will see a large evergreen on your left with a trunk that splits 3 ways about 5 feet up. Look behind it.) Some of this is Lipinski farm land (crop fields & fenced in areas). Beware the horse flies in June-July! They are relentless!!!

At the 2nd pair of poles count 70 adult steps down the path, then stop. To your left you will see a path going into the woods Take this left. This path will soon split in 2, with a small tree growing in the middle of the split. Go around the left of this tree & stop, noticing the circle of sand directly in front of you. (*B.B. clue #2- look behind the largest tree in front of you! You may have to go wide around the left of it to actually get behind it.)
Head down the path on your left.

Thank God you can enjoy His creation with your eyes, ears, nose, & sense of touch ! Notice all the different things He has made, including you ! (The moss in this area look like tiny evergreens, & others look like baby ferns!) God loves you so much that He wants you to be a part of His family & to enjoy His love forever.

To find a letterbox & to know God we need to have faith & follow directions. We have to ask God for faith & follow His directions for us in the Bible. But sin (the bad things we do) separate us from God & He can’t allow this sin into heaven. The 1st people God had ever created (Adam & Eve) chose to sin, & that sin was passed down to all humans, making us all sinners. Can we get rid of our sins on our own ? No, we can’t, but God can !

The 1st letterbox is easy to find but it’s hidden in a dark place, just as sin likes to stay dark & hidden. Look for a large evergreen tree on your right, next to a big rock on the tree’s left side with strange green designs on it. Letterbox #1 is hidden between the rock & a small tree.(*B.B. clue #3- sit on the rock with your back to the path. Walk straight ahead of you about 26 paces & find the tree that has most of its branches all facing in one direction.)

Continue down the path, climb over the pile of 3 fallen trees, then stop. Notice how the trail splits into 3 paths; path #1 is straight ahead, path #2 is bearing right, & path #3 , which is not as noticeable, cuts to the far right. Take the 3rd path, which will teach you about sin. (*B.B. clue #4- look behind one of the trees on the left on this path !) Where does this path lead you ? If you stayed on this path, going round & round do you think you would find all the letterboxes ? Staying on the paths of sin will get you nowhere & will slow down your growth to become what God has planned for you. Go back where you face the 3 paths again. This time go down the path #2 bearing right (remember where you came from ! You will be coming back here later to go down path #1 ! ) This will take you to a large evergreen grove. Stop & listen how quiet it is here! Jesus chose to willingly pay for our sins by dying a cruel death when He was nailed to the cross. He loved us so much that He gave His life for us!

When you get near the end of this path, you will see a pile of branches on your right that point to a tree on the right with red marks on it & has a “J” shaped trunk sticking out on the right. Go up to it, stop & take a moment to think about what Jesus did for you & how much He loves you, right now, just the way you are, no matter what you’ve ever done in the past.

Go to the other side of the “J” trunk & sit on it with your back facing the path you came from. From here you should see a tree with a truck that separates into 4 ahead of you.
Letterbox #2 is hidden in the middle of the 4.

(*B.B. clue #5-from where you found this letterbox, turn & face the “J” tree & notice a tree before it a little to your right. Find B.B. on tree.)

Go back to pile of branches & turn left back up the path you came from to the pile of fallen trees you climbed over & face the 3 way split again, turning right onto the #1 path. (If you know what “fiddle heads” are & see any, you can actually cook & eat these !) Soon you will see a covered brown pipe sticking out of the ground on your left. **Caution when taking this very short path on left near it. This is Poor Meadow Brook & has a very steep bank. If you’re quiet, you may see a heron! (*B.B. clue #6- behind the 2nd large tree on right of this path.) Jesus is called “the living water”. A lot of things in life leave us feeling “dried-up” & thirsty. But Jesus satisfies our thirst!

Go back & take a left at the pipe onto the main path. (Keep your eyes open for holly trees!) As you walk along this path, if you know the song “It is well with my soul”, you may want to think about the words or sing it together. You will walk under 2 trees hanging over the path, one with a straight trunk, & one that arches like a rainbow. Walk a while, eventually passing a large fallen tree covered with moss, parallel to the path on the right. It’s roots are torn up out of the ground with a lot of the earth still attached to it. 20 adult steps down the path from this look for a fallen hollow tree on your right with the hollow part facing the path. The hollow opening will be covered with bark & sticks. Letterbox #3 is in this tree. PLEASE be sure to cover this up again SUPER-GOOD so the letterbox can’t be seen from the path. If we truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He came & died on the cross for our sins, & know there is nothing we can do to save ourselves from hell except confess & repent of our sins (this means to tell Jesus all we’ve done wrong & to ask for His help in keeping away from those sins) & ask Jesus to save us & be our Savior, He will do just that & more!

Continue down path. About 8 steps from letterbox #3, you will see a large “U” tree on the left of the path. About 40 steps from the “U” tree you will find letterbox #4. You will see a tree on the left with gnarled, twisted roots, directly before the path starts bearing right. Look up, under the roots, inside the tree for the letterbox. There will also be a fallen tree on the right side of the path opposite of the letterbox tree.

(B.B. clue #7-near this tree, on the other side of the path will be a fallen tree whose base is close to you. The tip of the fallen tree -the top part, not the roots- is pointing to a holly tree that has a B.B. behind it.)
**"fairy-house": you will see it on the left about 10-20 steps after letterbox #4, made out of sticks & leaves against a tree in it's roots. It's fragile, so please be careful!
Continue down path again & notice how it will be bearing right. This part of the trail may be muddy, but there are ways around it. You will walk under 2 thin trees hanging over the path- just like the last time, the 1st tree is straight, & the 2nd tree arches like a rainbow! Walk over a pile of dead trees, then count a little over 50 paces & stop. You should see a holly tree on your right. (B.B. clue #8- Not the holly tree closest to the path but the one behind it a little to it’s right furthest from the path has the B.B. on it.) Walk on a ways until you come to the part of the path where it looks like it ends. Ahead of you will be a narrow grassy path (with A LOT of poison ivy on it-careful!) bearing left with fallen trees across it & before it on your right you will see a very large evergreen tree whose trunk separates into 3 smaller trunks about 5-6 feet up & a path to the right of it.

(B.B. clue #9- if you face this larger path near the evergreen tree, you will see another large tree on the right of this path. B.B. is behind it.)

Take the grassy path to the end & when you get to the dirt path, take a left. This is the same path you started on in the beginning. Stay on this path, passing a pair of high tension poles with “ I love Joe N.” on the base. Cross under some telephone poles/wires.

(B.B. clue #10- when you are near the telephone poles/wires, look to your left where they lead & find pole #173. Facing pole, look to your right & see 2 large evergreens. Which one do you think has the B.B.?)

Continue down dirt path. When you get to next set of power poles you will see a small path on your left going into the woods a little. Take this & when you get to the foot bridge an Eagle Scout made, start counting the vertical posts on the right side of the hand rail. Sometimes there are otters swimming in the brook near the bank. Jesus is the only “bridge” that takes us to God. Bay Circuit Trail hikers use this path & bridge also. (You may want to do a search on the internet about that later.) Stop between posts 22-23 & jump down on the right side of bridge into the grass. Look underneath bridge for Letterbox #5. It will be nestled with in a wooden “frame” on a board under the bridge. (B.B. clue #11 is right here also!) After we’ve asked Jesus into our heart, it’s important to “grow” in Jesus. This means to be more like Him. We do this by reading, studying & applying the Bible to our lives, praying, & going to church. A Christian life is a life full of peace, joy, & exciting lessons to see God working in ! (do you know the song “Drinking from the Springs of Living Water”?) Go back down the footbridge to the power lines heading right & go down the dirt path back to your origional starting point. God bless!
