This letterbox is planted on the grounds of Big Cedar Lodge. Big Cedar is 10 miles south of Branson, Missouri. Follow Highway 65 south until you come to MO-86. Turn right. After just a short time, you will see a large Big Cedar Lodge sign on your right. Turn right and follow the winding road down to Big Cedar. You first will need to find the stables. They are north of the Registration Building, on Estate Road. Park you car in the small strip of parking spaces and walk to the east a few feet, looking for the nature trails. They are unpaved trails that are very close to the childrens' horseback riding trails. You will know that you have found the right trails when you find the sign for the nature trails at the entrance to the trails. If you begin at the sign, and use a medium gait, you should be able to follow the path 156 steps and arrive at the desired location. However, since footstep lengths can vary, here are some landmarks to look for. You will very quickly pass a dead tree and then a rock ledge. As you approach a clearing, be sure to stay to the right, as the trail nearly merges with the horse trail. You will come to a rock formation that looks like crumbling rock steps. Go up the steps and stop at the top. Count 44 steps from this location. Stop. Approximately 6 steps from your left should be a cluster of trees that are either dying or have very little foliage. (there IS existing foliage on the tops of the trees) Find the tree with 3 rocks at its base. The rocks will be behind the tree. The tree you are looking for is very near a pile of brush. IF YOU PASS THE PILE OF BRUSH, YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR. When you find the tree with the three rocks at its base, lift the one that is about 18 by 18 and is shaped like a cabin. Congratulations! You have found the letterbox that is first in our Big Cedar series. (and one of two currently planted. We have had so many visitors, we added a new blank book.) This one was placed by Moon Beam. We would LOVE to hear from you. Please email us at eagle.five@yahoo.com. Rehide well and be discreet!
