3/30-08 - Severely water damaged, will not replace.
7/26/2007 - Boxes 1 & 2 have been returned to us by the grounds crew but I think we'll relocate them downstate... perhaps they'll become hitchhikers somewhere in southern Indiana! Box 3 and the logbook will remain.
7/24/2007 - Boxes 1 & 2 are missing. They will not be replaced as we are moving downstate in a few days. Box 3 is alive and well and everything is in good shape.
Calumet Park Cemetery prides itself as one of Indiana's most beautiful memorial parks. The beauty comes from the many species of trees, as well as the lake, meditation pond, bell tower and several memorials.
Box #1 - 'Round the Mulberry Bush
This box was created at the request of Leaf Expert. It's smaller in size & does not contain a logbook. Leave your stamp in the logbook in Box #3. These are our first hand carved stamps so let us know what you think...but be gentle!
Through the main entrance, drive on ahead
Then left, past the bell tower flower bed.
Left once again and then to the right,
The meditation pond should be in sight.
Park on the side and...
Use Joseph and Anna's bench to sit and reflect
It's under the maple as you might expect.
Walk to the north and sing the tune,
You'll find yourself at the mulberry soon.
Proceed past the spruce and you will see,
The old twisted trunk of a lone willow tree.
So many soft hollows in which to find,
The treasure that Leaf Expert left behind!
A find for your book, but wait, there's more.
Clues for box #2 you'll score!
Box #3 - Flight 4184
It's not too far...continue on foot or drive
Left at Locke and down on the right,
Flight 4184's memorial will be in sight.
Proceed to the pillar, a sundial you'll find
Follow Roman twelve and walk behind,
The wall which leads to a tall cedar tree,
Some water and "rocks" now you'll see.
A closer look...the rocks are not rocks,
But pieces and pieces of gravestone blocks.
You'll find Flight 4184, that we know,
Under the black stone marked with "K" and half an "O".
Be sure to spend some time visiting the other memorials or enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake or pond under a nice shade tree.
