Clues

From US Rt.50 take Exit 11 Collington Rd, (Rt 197) - North < 1 mile to Foxhill Park parking lot. Bring your compass.

Distance: less than 1 mile
Difficulty: Easy
Reference: The Stone Bridge across the lake goes North South
Background: This park with Foxhill Lake is a small piece of the Ogle estate that surrounded the Belair mansion built by the Maryland Governor Samuel Ogle in 1745. In the 1960's Wm Levitt purchased the estate and built the Belair at Bowie housing subdivision. The Belair Mansion and Stable were given to City of Bowie and are now Museums open to the public.

Start from the parking lot and go NW on the paved bike path to the Foxhill Lake dam. Continue East along the South side of the lake and cross the bridge - stand at the North end of the bridge and turn around and look South East for the large dead tree standing at the top of the hill. Go back across the bridge turn East go to the top of the hill - look North for the large dead tree on the edge of the cliff - on the ground in front of the tree is another large old tree - check where it branches for the foxes lair and treasure. Return to the path and follow the old road until it turns SW and back to the bike path or take the foot path to the East to the top of the hill and continue SE thru the woods and down the hill till you reach the edge of the park at the Tasker Middle School ball field turn SW and return to the bike path.

Note: The Large dead Tree is hard to see from the bridge now that the top has fallen and the leaves are on the trees but you will find it at the top of the hill on the edge of the cliff.
