This letterbox was placed to celebrate the movement of the churches today called "General Baptists". They began in America in 1823 when founder Benoni Stinson organized the Liberty Church (now Howell General Baptist Church) in southern Indiana. In 1870 the General Association of General Baptists was organized, bringing together General Baptist local associations of churches in cooperative efforts.
This letterbox can be found on the west side of Evansville, IN just off the beautiful Ohio River. Take the LLOYD EXPY (IN-62 W) west from Hwy 41. Continue on LLOYD EXPY (IN-62 W) then turn left on RAY BECKER PKY and then turn left at Claremont's stop light. Immediately you will go over railroad tracks and come to a T, turn right at the T (this will be Dixie Flyer). Go exactly 1 mile until you see a 2 story blue building. Drive just passed this blue building and you will see an L shape set of bushes with a headstone. Facing the headstone of Elder B Stinson you can overlook the hedge which at one time was the Stinson homestead. To find what you are looking for you will need to find Elder B Stinson's wife headstone. Look behind it to find what you are looking for.
This letterbox contains two stamps. The first is Benoni Stinson, founder, and the second stamp is of The First General Baptist Church. If you have time to drive by the church go back to Ray Becker PKY and take a left and then turn left onto S Barker Ave .5 mi and then right on Broadway Ave .2 mi and left on Delmar Ave .1 mi. You will arrive at 1520 Delmar Ave @ the Howell General Baptist Church. On the right side of the church you will find beautiful stained glass windows. Go to the second long pane and you will locate a beautiful glass pane picture of Benoni. Safe and fun findings!
