VISIT MR. NUTTY NIBBLES LOOKOUT AT SAN DIEGUITO PARK
Highway 5. Take Lomas Santa Fe Exit. Go East on Lomas Santa Fe for 1 mile. Go left at the four way stop on Highland Drive. Continue on highland for .7 miles (do not enter upper park main entrance to your right, keep going). At the stop sign turn right onto El Camino Real. Turn right into San Dieguito Lower Park. Pay $3 at the kiosk for parking. Go to last parking lot which is circular.
Begin the hike in the cement barrier triangle off of the circular parking lot. One end of the triangle points to a large dirt trail. There is a creek bed and a dip in the road, past that on the road you came on the left is a dirt trail. This is the trail you should take.
Start hiking up the hill on the dirt trail. A ways up the hill you will come to a red sign that says “No Hiking Trail” to your right. Do not take this trail. Soon after that you will see a red sign to your left that says “Hiking Trail.” Take that trail. Stay left. You will see a clearing with young pine trees in it on your left. After that, you will come to a four trunked tree. Stay to your right. Go through the shady eucalyptus grove. Keep going on the main trail. Go up the widely spaced wooden stairs. There is a fork in the road; both trails end up at the same place so take either one. Go up the sandstone “stairs” to the lookout. Face away from the look-out post and take a bearing of 140 degrees. Go 9 paces. Turn to 20 degrees and look at the Yucca plant. Take 4 paces in that direction, bend down, and look under the Yucca. Be sure not to get suck by one of the stickers!!!!
