The state park is located 4 miles east of the 15, 18, 66, and 424 intersections on ST. RT. 424. If you are not from around here, you will need to take ST. RT. 424 east along the river. This is marked as a scenic route. Once you arrive in Independence, Ohio, you will avidly look for the Independence Dam State Park sign. You will then turn into the park and follow the road past the dam. You may want to stop and check out what the dam is doing at that moment. If the water is up, you may want to proceed with caution on the next part of your adventure. If the water level looks normal, you can continue to drive into the park.

You will need to park in the parking spaces to the right. This will give you a beautiful view of the dam. You will then proceed down the steps that will take you to the water. The steps should be on the left along the river. Take them down to the rocks below and you will look back up to where you parked. You will see two large trees growing out the side of the wall. Go to the second tree… you will need to be careful about walking here… it is very mucky and gooey. We had to carefully place rocks in the muck to get to the tree. You will find a microbox (in a film canister) placed discretely in the tree. To help you out, you will need to find a small part of the tree that is in the shape of a circle.

Watch out for muggles, Many of them like to fish and it is a favorite eating spot at lunch and supper time.
