SORRY THIS BOX HAS BEEN REPORTED MISSING OR STOLEN AS OF SPRING 2013.

Eshqua Bog Letterbox, Hartland
Go to Woodstock, which can be reached by following Route 4 east from Rutland, via Route 106 north from Springfield, or Route 4 west from White River Junction.

From the Woodstock green head east on Route 4 (it becomes 4 and 12 there). As the Route 4 and 12 turns a sharp left at the Maplefields Mobil Station, go straight onto Hartland Hill Road about a mile, then take another right on to Garvin Hill Road for about a mile. There will be a couple of small yellowish Nature Conservancy signs on your right. Park in the pullover off the road as much as possible. Find the path and go up into the woods for about 100 yards by foot trail and there is the bog. In the spring there are trilliums. In early summer the lady’s slippers are blossoming. There are yellow ones, and later pink ones, as well as other wildflowers. It is gorgeous. There is a bench for sitting, or you can go out on the board walk into the bog and see all the rare wild flowers and plants. You can go straight past the bench and find more board walks and wild things.

To find the letter box sit at the seat (which was placed in memory of a Ms. Ridlon) and then follow the board walk out into the bog past the wooden box with flyers in it. Keep on until the path begins to go up a hill in the woods. Stop at the end of the boardwalk here and go to your left a few steps toward the hill. There are two downed trees or logs there forming a “V” – white birch and another. The letter box is there covered with leaves and moss.

BE SURE to rehide the box carefully so strangers will not find it.
