In the old Western movies they called the burial grounds "Boot Hill." If this had anything to do with the cowboys who wanted to "die with their boots on" I don't know.

From the stoplight at the center of Ludlow town on Route 103, turn South at the light and go up Depot Street, under the Railroad underpass and on up the hill. Take a left onto South Hill (there's a sign). Follow South Hill road for about 2 miles. The road turns to dirt just before your stop.

South Hill Cemetery is on your left, pull over and park. (just beyond are a tree and a mail box with the number "1105.") Walk into the entrance and enjoy the old gravestones for the old South Hill residents who are buried there.

Go back and stand at the entrance as you entered it (facing east), turn right (south), and take 17 steps along the inside of the stone wall and the letter box will be in the wall right near another large stone that sets apart from the wall. (You can sit on it and reach for the letterbox.) I have placed a flat stone on edge in front of the hole, but the plastic bag is just visible. You will be about 4 feet from the inside corner of the stone wall.
