Directions to “Rabbit” Box

From I-95N take exit 54 in Branford. Turn right at end of ramp (From I-95S turn left at end of ramp) then Left at bottom of hill onto RT-1. Drive less then one mile and turn left onto North Chestnut St. Drive less then one mile, go over a small bridge and park at entrance of trails. Enter at the Branford Supply Pond sign and follow the Orange trail (the one on the left).

Once on the orange trail, walk and enjoy the scenery. The trail follows a stream that is down a hill on the left hand side. Shortly down the trail look right and notice a stone foundation. I believe it used to be an old mill. Keep walking and the trail will take you around another stone foundation. The trail splits a few hundred yards after that. Stay on the Orange trail to the right. Walk a short distance and the trail T’s with the Red trail. You are almost there. Walk directly across the Red trail on to an unmarked path. This path is short and loops to the right. When you’ve looped to the right, at the bottom of the hill, look to your right. You will see a stone wall. At the far right of the stone wall is a pocket made of rocks. Find the “Rabbit” box at the base of two tall trees growing close together.

Directions to “Turtle” Box... (Missing)

From the “Rabbit” continue on the unmarked path, about 20 paces, to the Red trail. Turn right on the red trail and continue through the yellow posts. Up ahead the trail will split. Follow the Yellow trail to the right. In the summer there are wild barriers on the right side of the path. A little ways up, the yellow trail, there will be a stone wall on the right. Just as the stone wall ends you should cross a little stream (I have never seen water not flow in this stream) it is very small and easily crossed, even by children. Immediately after you cross the stream; turn left then ascend up a hill on an unmarked trail. The trail will be quite rocky and there is a drop off on the left, of about fifteen feet, that goes down to the stream. Keep to the right of the trail and you’ll be fine. Ascend the rocky hill to where the trail starts to turn away from the stream. At this point you should be standing on a rock, imbedded in the trail, that you can not go around. Look to the left and notice some small and large rocks descending down to the water. The box is hidden amongst those rocks.

Directions to “Mouse” Box

From the “Turtle” turn back on the unmarked trail and go back down the rocky hill. At the bottom of the hill turn left and follow the Yellow trail (old green trail markings are still evident). This is technically no longer the Branford Supply Ponds. However, it is my understanding that this is still a trail the public is allowed TO access. [If you are uncomfortable with the idea that for a short distance you will not be on Branford Supply Pond property, you can double back to where the Red trail intersects the Yellow and follow the red trail back to the other end of the yellow trail. That will lead you to the purple trail but the purple trail will now start on your right].
Follow this trail and you will come to a short walking bridge that crosses a small body of water. The bridge is Branford Supply Pond property. After the bridge, the Yellow trail is clearly marked. Follow the yellow trail up a hill. A good ways down the trail, on the left, you will see the Purple trail marked on a pine tree. Turn left and follow the purple trail. Once on the purple trail there isn’t much for land marks. Basically, follow the, somewhat, windy trail up a gradual hill and look to the right for some large rocks, about fifty feet off of the trail. The box is hidden amongst the large rocks. If you pass between stone walls you have gone too far. After stamping the “Mouse” box, you may continue to follow the purple trail or back track to the yellow. If you follow the Purple trail it will eventually bring you out to the road that the parking area is on. Turn right upon exiting the trail and follow a short way to the parking area. If you choose to turn back, then follow the yellow trail to the red trail. Turn left on the red trail and it will bring you back to the parking area as well.
