OUR APOLOGIES TO EVERYONE WHO HAS LOOKED FOR OUR BOX IN 2008. WE HAVE A NEW LITTLE LETTERBOXER ON THE WAY (DUE EARLY AUGUST) SO WE CAN'T MAINTAIN THE DL BOX THIS SUMMER. PLEASE COME VISIT US IN '09 WHEN WE PLAN TO PLACE A SECOND BOX IN THE AREA IN HONOR OF THE NEWEST PHaT FAMILY LETTERBOXER!
For generations, our family has summered on beautiful Duncan Lake in Ossipee, New Hampshire. Now it’s your turn to discover the beauty of Duncan Lake. This letterbox is hidden near the public beach area. Bring your bathing suits and inner tubes and enjoy a day at the lake. If you look closely across the lake, you might see us at our summer home, catching frogs and sunbathing!
This is an easy letterbox and great for kids!
-Take Route 16 North into Ossipee, NH.
-Approximately 8.6 miles from the Ossipee town line, you will come up on a popular coffee chain with the same name as this letterbox (hint: it’s spelled a little differently!) on the right-hand side of Route 16N.
-Take a right onto the unpaved road right before the coffee place; this road is named for the lake.
-Follow the unpaved road approximately .4 miles, then turn left onto the road named for the President who used to summer on the lake (there will be a sign here for Town Beach).
-Follow this unpaved road up the hill and through the yellow gate.
-Park in the clearing, then walk back to the clearing entrance (through which you just drove) and find the tree with the forked trunk on the right-hand side.
-Walk about 65 paces back towards the yellow gate (if you hit the yellow gate, turn back, because you’ve gone too far!)
-Find the 7-rock formation on the right-hand side.
-The letterbox is buried behind the largest rock, underneath smaller rocks, one of which is marked with the letterbox initials.
-The stamp of the Duncan Lake Letterbox represents Duncan Lake’s most beloved inhabitants who return every year to raise their babies on Duncan Lake.
-Please rehide the box exactly as found and out of site of any beachgoers who happen on the trail.
-Please let us know when you’ve visited our very first letterbox!
