Fairy Lake

Fairy Lake is a beautiful mountain lake sitting in a forested bowl at the base of Sacagawea Mountain. The lake is in close proximity to Fairy Lake Campground, located a quarter mile from the lake. The trail loops around the perimeter of the lake. This high mountain area is a great place to picnic and to do some fishing. Look for the cutthroat trout cruising the shore line!

Fairy Lake is 21.5 miles from downtown Bozeman. From Main street head north on North Rouse Avenue. The road curves right and becomes Bridger Canyon Drive, Highway 86. The turnoff is 0.9 miles past the Battle Ridge Campground. Turn left on Fairy Lake Road. Drive 6.1 miles on the unpaved road to the Fairy Lake Campground. In July, the meadows are full of beautiful wildflowers. You might get lucky and see a black bear, deer, elk or moose. Park at the signed trailhead on the left.

Take the signed Fairy Lake trail a quarter mile downhill to the north shore of the lake. Turn left and follow the path across the bridge. Step off the path up to the left. You will see a tree that has been sawn in three large pieces. 15 paces to the east of the trees you will see a large gray slanted rock. Take 7 steps southeast and look for a pink rock. Wildflower will be under that rock.
