This box was originally planted by Leader Of The Pack and Cock-A-Doodle-Moo 4-H during the Wapping Fair at Rye Street Park Sept. 8-9, 2001. This box was once one of the Tolland County Fair boxes, now making a permanent home at the (former) site of yet another fair.

Directions: From the intersection of US Route 5 and CT Route 194 in South Windsor, head east on Rt. 194. After a short distance, turn left on Rye St. Rye Street Park & Zagorski Field are just over a mile ahead on the right.

Clues: Drive slowly into this lovely park. An option to turn left will arrive, continue straight ahead. Note the wood line on the right and that there is no curb on the right. Keep your eye to the right and make note of where the curb on the right side of the road begins. It is approximately across from an “Additional Parking” sign on the left and shortly before the drive bends to the left. Park your car and walk back to where the curb begins.

Take approximately 48 steps east along the curb from the point where it begins and stop. On the opposite side of the road from where you stand should be the stump of a tree cut low to the ground. Turn right to 190 degrees and take 38 steps along that vector, crossing into the woods. You will arrive at a 2-sister tree with a single trunk tree right beside it, all in a line. Now take 22 steps at 170 degrees. You should be standing beside a small-to-medium tree with fallen logs directly behind it along the embankment. A Cute Clucker is hiding in a box is directly behind the tree (south side), tucked under a log and hidden by debris.

Beyond the tennis courts and to the left is where the Wapping Fair was held (now held at Evergreen Walk). A small country fair with a few rides and great French fries. There were 23 cows and quite a few goats, Leader Of The Pack brought 3 sheep and they were the show. One team of oxen walked to the fair from their home 1 1/2 miles away. The fire and police dept. had nice displays and 4-H kids brought home ribbons for the work of cleaning the animals and showing them. A great weekend topped off by leaving the box. Hope you all enjoy! Be safe and have fun!
