Old Hickory LbNA # 32836
|Placed Date||Jul 8 2007|
|Location||Indian Land, SC|
Drive to Andrew Jackson State Park on Highway 521 in Indian Land ($2 per adult).
Follow signs to the lake and park in the lot there.
Begin the Garden of the Waxhaws nature trail by crossing the dam to the left of the lake.
Follow the signs for the nature trail and admire the various trees indigenous to the area (marked with signs throughout the trail).
Continue the trail into the woods alongside the lake.
Eventually you will come to a somewhat muddy bog (hope you wore the right shoes!) depending on recent rainfall.
Follow the trail to cross the bridge across a small creek.
If you pass the Mockernut Hickory tree you are on the right path.
Continue to the "American Holly" tree sign. Stop directly in front of the sign. Facing the sign, look ahead through the "V" shaped tree in front of you for the first large tree.
The treasure you seek lies behind this tree.
Remember to "leave no trace" and return the box as well or better than you find it.
Continue the trail around the rest of the lake and back to the lot.
Before you leave be sure to check out the excellent museum about former president and native son Andrew Jackson and the beautiful statue by Anna Hyatt Huntington.
