THE PICNIC SPOT

What you don’t need to know :: Long ago when I was “just “ a hiker this little preserve was a favorite place to take a hike and have a picnic out on the top of a great huge rock . To find our favorite Picnic Spot you will need to know this :
This is about three miles in and out . Some ups and downs. Great Rocks .

Directions : Take exit 10 off Route 9 [ north or south ] and turn left at the end of the ramp onto route 154. Just about .07 mile turn right onto Dripps Road , a little used town gravel road . The road immediately bends right just at the entrance [ on the left] of the old grassy lane which is the beginning of this hike. Turn around and park on the side with the trail entrance . This trail is blazed white . Hike up the wide trail and as it levels off , look left into the woods and notice an old stone house. It is fun to go in and carefully look around , imagine someone lived here long ago They called this Spiderweed . !! . Have you been here before?? Watch for the white blazes, they are old and worn like the house. There will be some turns .. When you get to a tree with two white blazes , this indicates a loop , at this point take the trail that goes right . It will be easier to find the SPIR trail . . As you hike along and soon come up onto a large outcrop , and walk over the top . Notice you are now turning west . Just off the rock watch carefully for a small tree on the right with a silver metal square nailed to the tree, It says SPUR – go right onto the narrow spur trail now blazed in blue . The blazes are old here too and you must watch carefully both going in and coming out . You will be rewarded in less than a half mile to a really large rock—I mean really large !! you will be standing on it .. Go to the highest point , stand on the blue blazes and go about 10 steps at 30 degrees to a tree with a dead stump. It is standing now—but may fall one day . Right here , my friends Donutz and Bluebird carried rocks to cover the small letterbox . Here is my PICNIC SPOT .
Stamp in and cover back with the rocks . If you did bring a picnic , here is THE SPOT !
To return to your car , leave the Spot , the way you arrived , watch carefully for the narrow trail and the old blue blazes . When you reach the white trail , turn right and follow it to complete the loop and meet up at that tree with the two blazes. Continue straight on the white and you will walk past the stone house now on your right , and down the hill to your car .
Thank you Donutz and Bluebird for your help and company .
Smile
