Note from webmasters: we have received a complaint from the park manager that this letterbox is placed illegally without proper permits.

The old tunnel wildlife area is about 13 miles from Comfort. From Hwy. 87 in Comfort, take FM 473 towards sisterdale. At the sisterdale cutoff, don't turn. Keep going straight where the FM road turns into a back road. Go about 7 miles to the old tunnel wildlife area known as the bat tunnel. If you go in the evening during spring, summer and early fall months, you can observe the bats emerging from the tunnel. Check their website for more info. and times. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/wma/find_a_wma/list/?id=17
Park in the parking lot there. Find the historical marker about the old railroad tunnel. Go to the west side of the middle kiosk to learn more about the bats. Turn around and go about 30 steps east down the path. Turn right to the picnic table overlooking the valley. Facing south, look about 150 degrees there is a stump sticking out of the rock wall. Carefully, go to the stump where the top is hollowed out. Letterbox is tucked in the hollow hole covered by a rock. Please rehide well as this is a highly visited area. While you're in this area, check out our other letterbox (Let's go to Luckenbach)
