A letterbox friendly to grandparents, small children, and the unambitious: a short walk from the road.
From Cowdrey, Colorado drive to Big Creek Lakes. Arriving at the lakes, take road to right, and look immediately for the pay station/latrines/water faucet on the left; pull in there.
Calibrate your paces here: from the faucet to the registration drop box is 8 (of my) paces.
Your path starts at the picnic table of the campsight to the right (west) of the pay & water station. After begging the pardon of any camper you may be briefly intruding upon, take the short path from the picnic table that follows the lily pond around to the right, between the road and the pond. Go 166 paces, and look for a large (about 5 feet tall and wide) boulder to the right, about 2.5 paces off the trail. (Just before this is a cluster of 5-6 very young fir trees, on the left and very close to the trail.)
On the far side (west side) of the boulder, there is a shelf overhanging the ground, with a cluster of rocks underneath. The box is behind these rocks!
