NOTE: A PAIR OF GLOVES MIGHT BE HELPFUL when you find these blackbirds. We're told they bite!

Our family was looking for a camping spot we hadn't visited before and settled on Cascadia State Park on Highway 20, east of Sweet Home. On a recent jaunt away from home we were able to place two new letterboxes in this park. "Soda Creek Falls" requires a little more time and energy, but this one's great for starters. (PLEASE BE DISCREET AS YOU FIND THIS BOX. It wouldn't be too difficult to give away its location and thus jeopardize its future. You should probably carry it away to stamp and then return it to its hiding spot.)

Farmer Brian and his wife seem to have very different opinions of crows. SHE has many fond memories of camping during her childhood, always waking to the musical alarm clock of the resident black birds. As far as she's concerned, they're rather attractive birds, and no camping experience would be complete without them. HE, on the other hand, considers them one of the scourges of the earth, a never-ending nuisance to those trying to produce food for the peoples of the planet. Find this box to see whose opinion of the birds triumphed in the carving of the stamp.

NOTE: Some have had trouble finding this box. Don't be confused;just follow the clues! Our intent was to introduce you to some of the things this park has to offer. Maybe you'll have time to explore them after finding the letterbox.

(Also check out the clues for Fountain of Youth LB nearby.)

1. Park at the picnic area just after entering Cascadia State Park.

2. Head down the trail directly behind you, Soda Springs Trail.

3. Pass the stone wall and stop at the first large tree on your left. Head up the trail you will find at 228 degrees. (Be careful of this clue; it seems to have caused confusion for other 'boxers. Just do what it says.) At the top of the hill, turn right and approach six stars.

4. Bear right and continue until you spot two white posts on the left. From the rock between the two posts, take about 90 steps,at 206 degrees compass bearing, to a red object.

5. Take the nearest road to your right. There are somewhere "BETWEEN 4 and 20" blackbirds hidden nearby. This is no run-around. I'm giving you the straight scoop. (I hope this clue doesn't STUMP you.)

Please "Contact the Placer" regarding the condition of this box. We don't live anywhere nearby and would welcome someone adopting its care.
