"Take me out to the ball game" is the first stamp in my series called "Summer's Simple Pleasures," and, like all four of these boxes at Leonard Springs Nature Park, this one has a double stamp inside; that is, there is a carving on the top and the bottom of the stamp. In order to collect all eight impressions in the right order, you'll have to do some planning in your log book before you begin. Reserve 8 spaces that will allow for a 1.5"x1.5" sized stamp and mentally number those spaces sequentially. The impressions that will go in spaces #5-#8 will be on the opposite side of impressions #1-#4, and those last four impressions will form a rebus to make the name of the last of the five simple summer pleasures celebrated in this series. Trust me, it's not as complicated as it might seem. Each box contains a handcarved double stamp and what my kids call a first-finder "trading card." Please make a note that because these are double stamps, you'll want to bring along a napkin or a wet wipe to cover the stamp when you make the second impression or you will go away with a well-inked hand.

Find your way to the parking lot of Leonard Springs Nature Park, and prepare to hike for about a mile. Head toward the gate with the park hours posted (they open at 5 in the morning, and because this park has many different kinds of areas..clear cut growth, wetland swamps, streams and waterfalls, as well as regular forests...the bird watching is spectacular, so come early and bring the binoculars). Before you reach the gate, take the path to the right. Cross over a log in the path, and just before the road, on your right, look in the base of a V tree for your first treasure of the trek.
