There are many historic churches in downtown Vicksburg. The kids at Crawford Street UMC are proud that theirs is still thriving.
On April 7, 1841 the land where this church now stands was sold to the trustees by J.W. Vick, and the first church building was dedicated in 1850. Though this isn't the original building, due to upgrades and a fire in 1925. The final note was paid on the current sanctuary building on Easter Sunday 1944. As you hunt for this letterbox, we hope that you will enjoy the beauty of the church as much as we do.
You will find this church on the corner of Crawford Street and Cherry Street. As you approach the church you will notice a staircase on the Crawford Street side that leads to the sanctuary. To the right of the staircase you will find the letterbox. It is between the staircase and the dogwood tree -all the way to the back and under the ivy.
If you'd like, sit on the stairs and rest you feet while you do your stamping!
