Located in Ponder, Texas, the Ranchman’s Roundup Café may be better known in Dallas or by European travelers who read about it in travel guidebooks than by residents in its own backyard of Denton, but it definitely has a following. Everyday, you will find a line of pickup trucks parked in front of the small restaurant filled with people from all walks of life from construction workers to movie stars, politicians and often race car drivers since it is located just north of Texas Motor Speedway. As you walk into the small restaurant, the waitress takes your drink order (sweet or unsweetened?) and hands it to you before you walk past the bar to your table. Although the cafe draws customers from around the world, it is as Texas as you can get! They are famous for their steaks, but have a daily lunch menu complete with chicken fried steak, burgers and much more. However, if you want a baked potato, you have to order it the day before!

Some of the Ranchman’s famous customers have been: (get ready for this) Warren Beatty, David Campo, Linda Carter, Miss Lillian Carter (Jimmy’s mama), David Caruso, Cindy Crawford, Eric Clapton, Beverly D’Angelo, Faye Dunaway, A.J. Foyt, Chan Gailey, Walt Garrison, Don Henley, Bo Hopkins, Dennis Hopper, Lauren Hutton, Meadowlark Lemon, Meatloaf, Stevie Nicks, Hugh O’Brian, Cybill Shepherd, Roger Staubach, Barry Switzer, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, John Wayne, Randy White, Kyle and Richard Petty, and even the Gryzzled Gryphon.

Clues: Find your way to Ponder, Texas on Hwy. 156 (driving directions given on the www.ranchman.com website). The restaurant is located in the “downtown area” on Bailey St. just off 156. Park in the lot on the east side of the building. At the back of the parking lot, you will see an entrance to the Eddie Deussen Jr. Park (W. James St. and 156). Go into the park and find the northwest corner of the one room school house. Notice the interesting log posts under the building supporting the structure. Tucked behind the Nandina bushes, by the log post is the box. There is a rock on top of the box to protect it from washing away in a heavy rain. Please recover well and replace the rock on top of the box.
