Western Kentucky University was founded in 1906. The school's first president, Henry Hardin Cherry, expressed a theme for Western's educational commitment that is a constant inspiration to faculty, students and alumni: "The Spirit Makes the Master." The campus crowns a hill overlooking the city of Bowling Green and is proclaimed as one of the most beautiful in the nation.

Notable alumni include: John Carpenter, Sue Grafton, The Hilltoppers, and Duncan Hines.

DIRECTIONS FROM NORTH AND SOUTH 1-65: Take Exit 26 off of Interstate 65. Turn toward Bowling Green onto Cemetery Road. Continue straight for three miles. Cemetery Road becomes Fairview Avenue. Continue going straight across 31-W Bypass. You will pass a fire station on your left. After passing the fire station, turn left at the third traffic light onto College Street (this is a one-way street). Stay on College Street through downtown Bowling Green and continue until you reach the top of the hill. College Street will dead-end at 15th street at a statue of Henry Hardin Cherry. These directions will take you to campus. You will need to research prior to visiting in order to find the correct building.

Your quest will take place at the building that originally housed Western's elementary and high school instructional program. It was named after Lee Francis Jones and C.H. Jaggers, longtime supporters of education in Kentucky.

Once you have found the building, turn into the drive and park in the rear. There are several 10 minute temporary parking spots as well as three visitor parking spots. You will notice three large rocks across from the visitor parking area. Head northwest toward the small picnic area on the far end of the parking lot. By the picnic area is a gray and red shed. With your back to the front door on the shed walk forward about 11 paces along the tree line. To the right is a large tree that supports a lean-to on the opposite side. Reach up into the tree and to the right to find Big Red.

Weekends and evenings are sure to be a quiet time to find this box. Please bring your own pen and ink (red if you have it). Be sure to rehide the box carefully back where you found it.
