An easy box in Burlington almost on Johnnycake Mountain. No more than an hour, if that.

Route 4 to Johnnycake Mountain Road to Old Field Road. There’s a large piece of private property on the corner so drive 0.1 miles down Old Field and park on the left just before the first driveway on the right (we pulled up on the grass where it narrowed a bit. Roadside parking is O.K. too). The trail’s a bit hard to spot but if you walk along the edge of the overgrown grasses, you’ll see a faint path which quickly becomes a trail marked with a blue and yellow blaze. This is very overgrown in summer but soon opens up. Blazes are faded.

The trail goes mostly downhill for first part of the hike, crossing a rocky stream, passing by an extremely large boulder trailside, going up and over a rocky ledge (stay to the right of the electric fence) and finally going uphill. At the T go left a short way (right goes to route 69) where the blazes might now be just blue and at the top of the first incline there’s a large rocky ledge right of you. The box is in a cave at the left front of the largest squarish rock with trees growing out of it (to the right of a faint unmarked trail). More cover would be a good thing here.

After rehiding you can go boringly back the way you came or continue on following blazes carefully (there might be some building going on here) coming to a paved road, turn left, and then left on Johnnycake Road. Use caution along this busy road.
