this box is located in Borderland State Park; the former Oakes and Blanche Ames Estate, graced with many easy walking trails around ponds and meadows. In winter, ice fishing and skating near a fireplaced hikers hut is common; in summer, family outings, concerts, mansion tours are frequent.
The box can be found near the mansion by:
*start at the Ranger's Station and find the information board to the right of the Station; there is a map of the Park on this board;
*Take the trail toward the Mansion; pass an old black fire hydrant on the right;
*Just before the mansion there is a small concrete bench in memory of WWII soldiers
*Find the granite steps leading down to the old pool area pass by an arbor and a stand of odd shaped hemlock trees;
*Continue on these steps to the next interest marker which explains the construction/use of this unique pool.
*Look across the pool to an old grinding wheel on a granite slab; go to this wheel.
*This wheel has "spoke lines" running to the center; pretend this is a clock face; and position yourself so that you are standing at 6 o'clock.
*Imagine the clock now reading 2:00 and look in the direction of 2:00, where you will see a group of 3 large rocks....
*The letterbox is located between the two rocks on the right under a few brances and leaves.
*Have fun, but please replace the box just as you find it.
