SUGAR CITY
This letterbox is in Crockett. Take Exit 27 (Pomona St.) off of I-80. From the end of the off ramp, make a left onto Pomona St. and take it under the freeway and into the town of Crockett. Continue through the 2 block downtown, which has a few art galleries, antique stores and restaurants to visit. A block past the stoplight is a stop sign at Rolph Avenue. Turn left here and take Rolph all the way down the hill almost to the train tracks. At the stop sign at Loring Ave., look across the tracks and you can see the huge nine story C&H Sugar refinery. (Alas, they don’t give plant tours, so you don’t need to ask.) Sugar has been refined here for over 100 years, making this a pretty sweet little town! Make a right onto Loring and after a couple of buildings, on the right, you will see a little subterranean park, across the street from the main building for C&H. Park on Loring.
This wonderful park is Rithet Park, with a fountain and some picnic tables, nice shaded lawns and even 2 bocce courts. Enter the park from the eastern entrance on Loring. There are 2 pergolas, one to you left, one to your right. The one on the right has a little wall you can sit on. At the base of the pergola, under a SPOR, is your prize.
Please be discreet, and please return the box carefully, covering it well.
Please email me when you have found it! Thanks!
