The Cardettes are a precision dance/drill team. They perform at all home Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) Cardinals football games and area away games.

The Cardettes began in the Spring of 1960 with 13 lovely young ladies on the team. It was not until the Fall of 1960 that the Cardettes began entertaining crowds at halftimes of Hic-Jic (Henderson County Junior College) football games. The ladies were under the direction of Mrs. Jean Bell.

The reign of Mrs. Maetta Davis-Cumby began in the Fall of 1963. She and choreographer Dale Robbins built the team up considerably and traveled with them to the Junior Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, the State Fair of Texas, and the HemisFair in San Antonio. It was Mrs. Davis who established the enviable position of the Cardette Escort.

Over the years the Cardettes have become World Famous. Not only have they traveled domestically to such places as New Orleans, Miami, El Paso, Philadelphia, Hollywood, and New York City, and several nationally televised appearances, but they also have performed overseas.

The Cardettes became the first Dance team ever to perform in Moscow, Russia. They have also danced in Zurich, Switzerland, the Bahamas, and Nice, France. They performed for President Ronald Reagan and Vice-President George Bush live on National Television during that Republican National Convention. The Cardettes were also involved in Texas Governor Ann Richards’ inauguration.

They have performed for the entire Air Force Academy at a football game in Colorado Springs, Colorado, performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City, and have marched in the Neiman Marcus Adolphus Children's Christmas Parade in Dallas, Texas every year since 1990.

Henderson County Junior College changed its name to Trinity Valley Community College in 1986, and the Cardettes continue to be a huge presence and phenomonal "high kicking" precision drill team.
This box is dedicated to my mother, a former Cardette!

Directions to the box:

On the north side of the Henderson County Courthouse square in Athens, turn south on Prairieville and drive 0.6 miles. On your right, you will pass Kiwanis Park, FM 2494 and the TVCC sign. The next street on your right is Campus Drive. Turn onto Campus Drive and travel a short distance until you can veer left onto Cardinal Drive. Follow Cardinal Drive around TVCC. On your left you will pass Central Park, then Belmont Street. The first building on your left you come to, is the TVCC Fine Arts Building. Turn left, and drive up the hill and park in the parking lot of this building. Walk on the path to the Fine Arts building entrance. Pass the entrance and follow the left path down 5-6 steps toward the creek. As you approach the bridge, make sure there are no onlookers. The Cardette is doing her famous high kick under the left side of the bridges bottom rail.
