Though the origin of the game of baseball is hotly debated, Abner Doubleday is usually given credit for inventing it. The Mills Commission, appointed in 1905 to determine the origin of Baseball, decided he was the first person to make refinements to the game of Town Ball, such as marking a diamond-shaped field with 4 bases. The committee's final report, on December 30, 1907, stated, in part, that "the first scheme for playing baseball, according to the best evidence obtainable to date, was devised by Abner Doubleday at Cooperstown, NY in 1839." Later, when plans were being formulated for an appropriate celebration in Cooperstown to mark Baseball's upcoming 100th anniversary, it was proposed that a Hall of Fame be established as part of the shrine to honor the game's immortals. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum was officially dedicated in colorful ceremony on June 12, 1939. This box is dedicated to Mr. Doubleday and his contributions to the great game of baseball and can be found at Lakefront Park in Cooperstown.

Directions:
From Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, go north towards Lake Otsego on Pioneer Street and turn right on Lake Street. Turn left into the gravel parking lot for Lakefront Park.

Clues:
From the parking lot, walk towards the lake through the entrance and down the first set of steps between evergreen bushes. Turn right and walk 17 steps to a medium size "Christmas Tree". Go to the uphill side and look within its branches. The camo microbox is hanging on a branch near the trunk about 4 feet high. Please replace as described. NOTE: It has been reported that a Geocache is located nearby that is being mistaken for this box.
